Award-winning Ugandan singer Eddy Kenzo has opened up about his family background, revealing details about his late parents and the roots that shaped his identity.

Kenzo disclosed that his mother was Rwandan and spoke Kinyarwanda fluently. Although she passed away when he was still young, the singer says he still remembers hearing her speak the language.

He believes that if she had lived longer, he would likely be fluent in Kinyarwanda today.

Despite those maternal roots, the singer emphasized that he considers himself fully Ugandan. Kenzo explained that he was born and raised in Masaka, specifically in Ssenyange, before later relocating to Kampala.

According to the musician, Masaka remains home to him, and he would even want to be laid to rest there when his time comes.

Kenzo also revealed that his father was the late Chef Ali, who hailed from the Ankole region.

However, the singer said he deliberately kept the information about his father away from the media for many years because he wanted to avoid unnecessary controversy around his music career.

Kenzo explained that the information about his father only became widely known after Yoweri Museveni publicly mentioned the relationship.

Once the revelation was made public, he says there was little he could do to keep the matter private.
