Masaka City Woman MP Justine Nameere has ruled herself out of the NRM campaign trail in the upcoming Kalangala Woman MP by-election, saying her decision is driven by sympathy for the family of the late Hellen Nakimuli.

Nameere revealed that Nakimuli’s passing brought back painful memories of losing her own mother at a young age, making it emotionally difficult for her to campaign against Irene Nampala, Nakimuli’s sister and the NUP flag bearer.

“I cannot stand in Kalangala and campaign against a family that is still grieving,” Nameere said, describing her choice as a personal and emotional one.

Even though she has stepped away from direct involvement in the campaign, Nameere called on her supporters to rally behind the NRM candidate, Aidah Nabayiga, clarifying that her decision should not be seen as opposition to the party.

The Kalangala by-election was sparked by the death of former Woman MP Hellen Nakimuli and has since attracted national attention as NRM and NUP battle for the seat.
