Musician Latinum has dismissed claims that Ray G deserves to be crowned the "King of the West" following his sold-out concert at Lugogo Cricket Oval.
Speaking during an interview with the media, Latinum questioned why filling Lugogo Cricket Oval has become the standard for awarding an artist such a title.
According to him, Ray G's successful concert does not automatically translate into influence over Western Uganda's music industry.
"Is he the first person to fill Lugogo? Do you think that has any influence on the music in the region?" Latinum wondered.
Latinum pointed out that several Ugandan artists have also staged successful concerts at Lugogo Cricket Oval without using the achievement to claim any regional crown.
He cited Jose Chameleone, Cindy Sanyu, Sheebah Karungi, Winnie Nwagi, and King Saha as examples of artists who have filled the venue but never declared themselves kings or queens because of it.
For Latinum, selling out Lugogo Cricket Oval alone is not enough to justify crowning an artist the "King of the West."
He went on to argue that Ray G should acknowledge what he described as the existing hierarchy in Western Uganda's music industry.
"He should sit down and understand that the king of dancehall is the King of the West musically, and that is me," he said.
