Singer Lydia Jazmine has shared her thoughts on the perceived shortage of blockbuster songs in Uganda's music industry, attributing it largely to the country's political climate.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station, Jazmine said politics has dominated much of the year, leaving many musicians focused on political activities instead of making music.
According to the singer, even the few songs that were released struggled to gain traction because public attention was centered on political events.
"The lack of mega hits in the music industry is due to politics. Remember, this year started with a political cycle, and many musicians got involved in politics. Even the few who released music had their songs overshadowed by political events," she partly explained.
Jazmine also pointed to the country's economic challenges, saying they have negatively affected the entertainment industry.
She noted that bookings have declined because many people are struggling financially, making it harder for artistes to earn from performances.
"The economy has also not been favorable. There have been fewer bookings because people simply don't have money," she added.
The singer believes both politics and the economic situation have combined to slow the growth of Uganda's music industry this year.
