On Saturday evening, Buddu emerged victorious, clinching their third Masaza Cup title in an intense battle against Kyaggwe at Mandela National Stadium, Namboole. It was a thrilling scene as fans filled the stadium, celebrating the return of the Masaza Cup to this iconic venue for the first time since 2019. The game drew an enthusiastic crowd, with Buddu supporters cheering in full force as they anticipated yet another title for their team.

The game’s defining moment came early, in the 22nd minute. Buddu’s forward, Mike Walaga, perfectly positioned himself to meet a skillful cross from captain Pius Ssebulime. Walaga’s precise header left Kyaggwe’s goalkeeper, Peter “Dhaira” Katongole, with no chance, sending the ball into the back of the net and igniting a roar from Buddu fans across the stands. The scoreline remained unchanged, as Buddu’s defense held firm against Kyaggwe’s determined attacks. One of Kyaggwe’s best chances came just before halftime when Yosam Ssembalirwa narrowly missed a free header, much to the dismay of Kyaggwe’s supporters.

The Kabaka of Buganda, His Majesty Ronald Muwenda Mutebi II, graced the event, adding grandeur to the final. It was his first time attending the Masaza Cup final since 2022, and his presence highlighted the cultural importance of this tournament in Buganda. For Buddu, this victory added a third title to their legacy, following wins in 2016 and 2022. They have faced their share of disappointment, with losses in past finals against Ssingo and Gomba, but Saturday’s triumph firmly reestablished them as one of the tournament’s most resilient teams.

For Kyaggwe, however, the defeat was bittersweet. Reaching the final was a historic achievement, marking their first time competing at this level in the tournament. Their journey to the final had been no easy feat, having battled past Ssingo and Buweekula in earlier rounds. But Buddu’s early goal proved to be the only difference, as Kyaggwe’s efforts to level the match were met by Buddu’s staunch defense until the final whistle.

The day also featured a third-place playoff, where Buweekula clinched bronze with a 3-1 victory over Kyaddondo. However, the night belonged to Buddu, whose players, coaches, and fans celebrated under the stadium lights, marking the end of another memorable Masaza Cup season.
