The air was charged with ambition at the Electoral Commission headquarters in Kampala as several youthful aspirants secured their nominations for next year’s elections.
Among them was Ssentamu Churchill James, the current Makerere University Guild President, whose entry into the Youth MP Central Region race has already sparked nationwide attention.
As the son of Chairman Nyanzi and nephew to opposition leader Bobi Wine, Churchill’s decision to run independently has stirred political debate, especially as he goes head-to-head with NRM flag bearer Samuel Begira.
Speaking after his nomination, Churchill outlined his mission to empower Uganda’s young population through innovation and self-reliance.
“Our generation is full of potential, but many are trapped in poverty because opportunities remain out of reach,” he said. “My focus is on promoting youth-led enterprises and policies that equip young people with the skills and resources they need to thrive and create their own success stories.”
His nomination marked the conclusion of the two-day process for Special Interest Groups (SIGs). According to EC Deputy Spokesperson Paul Bukenya, a total of 70 aspirants were successfully cleared across four categories, including 26 candidates for youth representation.
