Kadongo Kamu singer and politician Mathias Walukaaga is reportedly celebrating big after Emmanuel Magoola’s victory in the Busiro East parliamentary race in Wakiso District.
Magoola was declared MP-elect for Busiro East, trouncing NRM’s Hajji Kiyimba by a margin of over 10,000 votes in the hotly contested race.
However, political corridors are buzzing with allegations that Walukaaga’s support did not come free.
Sources claim that before Walukaaga endorsed Magoola, the two allegedly entered into a financial agreement that would see the singer pocket UGX 300 million upon Magoola’s victory.
According to insiders, Walukaaga argued that he had invested heavily in building political structures and mobilising support on the ground, and was therefore willing to endorse any candidate who met his financial terms, provided they aligned with the National Unity Platform (NUP) ideology.
“Walukaaga made it clear that endorsement was not charity. He had already spent money on mobilisation and needed compensation,” a source familiar with the arrangement alleged.
It is further claimed that Walukaaga has already received UGX 150 million, with the remaining balance expected once Magoola accesses the UGX 200 million parliamentary vehicle facilitation fund after officially assuming office.
Walukaaga had initially secured the NUP party ticket for Busiro East but was later disqualified over failure to meet the minimum academic qualifications required by law. Following his disqualification, he publicly threw his weight behind Magoola, who went on to win convincingly.
Efforts to independently verify the financial claims were unsuccessful by press time, and neither Walukaaga nor Magoola had issued an official statement regarding the allegations.
