Minister of ICT and National Guidance, Chris Baryomunsi, has said there is no reason for opposition leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine) to remain in hiding following the 15 January presidential elections.
Bobi Wine has claimed he is living in hiding for his own safety, alleging that the army under the leadership of Chief of Defence Forces Gen. Muhoozi Kainerugaba wants him arrested over various accusations.
However, speaking in an interview with a local television station, Minister Baryomunsi dismissed the claims, insisting that the opposition leader is not being pursued by any state security agency.
“There is no need for Kyagulanyi to be in hiding. He is not under pursuit by the police, the army, security, or the State,” Baryomunsi said.
His remarks come just a day after security operatives raided Bobi Wine’s home in Magere, Wakiso District, an incident that sparked public concern and condemnation from opposition figures.
Despite the minister’s assurances, security personnel continue to surround Bobi Wine’s residence, where they have reportedly been camped since 15 January, the day of the presidential elections.
The situation has intensified political tension, with supporters demanding clarity on Bobi Wine’s safety and freedom of movement.
