Media personality and politician Justine Nameere has officially been declared the Masaka City Woman Member of Parliament following a controversial court-ordered vote recount.

Nameere was announced winner after securing 25,502 votes, narrowly defeating National Unity Platform’s Rose Nalubowa, who garnered 23,176 votes.

The declaration was made by Albert Asiimwe, the Chief Magistrate at Masaka Magistrates Court, after the recount exercise that was ordered by court following a petition filed by Nameere.

The highly contested recount process kicked off on Friday, attracting massive public attention and political tension within Masaka City.

Expressing her excitement after the victory, Nameere thanked voters for trusting her and promised to work hard for the development of the city.

“Our victory was stolen before, but it is good that it has now been rescued. I thank the people for believing in me and we shall now get to work,” Nameere said.

The outcome has sparked mixed reactions, with supporters celebrating the win while critics continue to question the credibility of the electoral process.

Nevertheless, Justine Nameere is now set to take her seat in Parliament, marking a major political milestone in her career.
