Reports circulating on social media allege that Uganda Airlines CEO Jenifer Bamuturaki has been sacked by President Yoweri Museveni, throwing the future of the national carrier’s leadership into uncertainty.
The claims come after the position of CEO was reportedly re-advertised, a move that has fueled speculation that Bamuturaki’s time at the airline may be coming to an end.
Bamuturaki’s leadership at Uganda Airlines has been surrounded by controversy from the start. She was appointed CEO in 2022 after previously serving as Commercial Director, a role she lost in 2019 under an earlier board.
Her return to the airline sparked criticism from lawmakers, who questioned both the recruitment process and her suitability for the top job.
Parliamentary committees have since probed her appointment, with allegations that the recruitment process was irregular, rushed and altered to favour her.
Uganda Airlines management has also faced heavy scrutiny over procurement decisions, route selections, and alleged conflicts of interest, raising broader concerns about governance at the state-owned airline.
Although management has repeatedly argued that early losses are normal for a national airline, pressure has continued to mount as financial deficits persist and the company remains heavily dependent on government funding.
Further reports suggest that the President may be considering hiring a former Chief Executive Officer of Ethiopian Airlines to take over the top job, signaling a possible major shake-up at Uganda’s national carrier.
As of now, no official statement has been issued by either State House or Uganda Airlines to confirm or deny the alleged dismissal.
