Musician Lydia Jazmine was one of the first people to support the Uganda National Musicians Federation (UNMF). She spent a significant amount of time at the UNMF offices in Mutundwe and even stayed there on occasion.

However, she has since stepped back and is no longer taking a leading role in the federation's activities. In a recent interview with a local television station, Jazmine explained that she is too busy to attend UNMF sessions, though she remains a member.

She stated that the federation has lost some of the initial momentum it had regarding copyright issues and that her music career has become more demanding since the release of her recent album.

"I am just too busy with my personal music career, but I'm still a member of the federation," she explained. "I think the copyright vibe we started with has also slowed down, but I'm still involved and show up whenever needed."

Jazmine believes that the federation, under the leadership of Eddy Kenzo, should not lose focus. She urged them to continue demanding and negotiating with the government for the passage and amendment of the copyright law.

"Copyright is our biggest problem as an industry. We need it, and I still believe with Kenzo at the helm, we will achieve it," she added. "They shouldn't give up on the fight; we will eventually win."

Like many other creatives, Jazmine believes that copyright protection will bring musicians financial freedom and other benefits.
