Renowned events promoter Abbey Musinguzi alias Abitex has found himself in hot soup after appearing before the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) and the State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) over alleged mismanagement of funds.

According to reports, Abitex was summoned on Monday in connection with investigations into the alleged misuse of UGX 1.5 billion that was given by President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni as a revolving fund to the Uganda Music Promoters SACCO (UMPS) in January 2026.

The money was meant to support and empower music promoters across the country, but investigators allege that Abitex, together with a section of promoters, connived to swindle the funds without distributing them fairly to all beneficiaries as required.

A letter currently making rounds on social media confirms the ongoing investigations.

“The Criminal Investigations Directorate (CID) in liaison with State House Anti-Corruption Unit (SHACU) is conducting investigations into allegations of mismanagement of funds amounting to UGX 1,500,000,000 given by H.E. the President as a revolving fund to Uganda Music Promoters SACCO (UMPS) in January 2026,” the letter reads in part.

The letter further instructed Abitex to appear before SHACU offices at the President’s Office, Parliament Building, 4th Floor, on Monday, 9th February 2026 at 9:00 AM without fail.

Other individuals reportedly invited for questioning include Mayanja Godfrey, Kawenja Yasin, and Kafeero Musinguzi.

The development has sent shockwaves through the entertainment industry, with many promoters demanding transparency and accountability over the controversial fund that was meant to uplift the sector.

As investigations continue, all eyes remain on CID and SHACU to establish the truth behind the alleged scandal.
