Veteran singer Ragga Dee has broken his silence on his ongoing copyright dispute with fellow musician Mikie Wine, who is accused of re-recording one of his songs without permission.
Speaking about the matter, Ragga Dee maintained that he never authorized Mikie Wine to remake his hit song "Empeta," contrary to claims that he had given verbal approval.
The singer emphasized that anyone wishing to remake or reproduce another artist's work must first obtain written consent, not just a verbal agreement.
According to Ragga Dee, such agreements are typically handled privately between the parties involved and are rarely discussed on television, radio, or social media.
"It's not done that way. When you're going to redo someone's song, you have to get written consent. It's not usually publicized on TV, radio, or social media. It's an agreement between two people, usually done in the studio," he explained.
Ragga Dee further revealed that he has previously granted several artists, including Sheebah Karungi, permission to remake his songs, stressing that every authorization was documented in writing.
"I have not met him because I have not given him consent. I have people I gave consent to redo my songs, like Sheebah, and it's always written consent, not verbal," he added.
The veteran musician's remarks come amid continued debate over copyright compliance and the importance of obtaining proper authorization before remaking another artist's work.
