Patrick Amuriat Oboi, the FDC party president has revealed that the country is not safe and that it is not only MPs that could be under threat.

“What we need to underline is that our country is under threat. What has been happening over the last 2 years attests the fact that security services and government have lost it all in as far as security of this country is concerned” Amuriat said.

The party president was speaking during the weekly press conference at FDC offices in Najjanankumbi. He was responding to a question of whether or not, MPs deserve extra security as recently decided upon.

According to POA, all the country needs that every citizen safely moves around the country, and not just some selected individuals. “What is good for MPs in terms of security is also good for you as journalists and common citizens.”

He added that journalists are actually in more risky business but don’t need 4 soldiers and snipers for them to do work.

“I say no to this, and wish to reject it in the strongest terms. The most important thing is to find out what the source of insecurity is. I would like to ask Mr. Museveni to examine himself internally first before apportioning blame to any other citizen” POA said.

Recently, the president directed finance minister to procure extra escort cars for the over 400 MPs in the 10th parliament and the defence minister to allocate sharpshooters to safeguard all MPs. This however met resistance from some MPs, opposition parties, and citizens, who argue that tax payers’ money is being misused.

FDC has now decided not to go on streets demonstrating government decisions, but rather, the party will go to villages and mobilize the population to resist the unfair decisions by government.
