Uganda police force is investigating three of its own for extorting Shillings 1,000,000 from Jamia Kisaale, a witch doctor in Yandwe village in Butuntumula sub county.

The trio include Sperito Bainomugisha, the Officer in Charge of Kasana Police Station in Luweero town council and two other unidentified personnel.

The officers are jointly accused with Noordeen Muyanja, also a witch doctor in Nakazzi village in Luweero town for raiding Kisaale’s home around 11 pm on Saturday claiming that he is in possession of the remains of a human sacrifice victim.

According to the witchdoctor, the officers searched her old shrine without a warrant or any area local leaders and later showed up with human remains. She however denied knowledge of the human remains but the officers and Muyanja threatened to arrest her unless she gives them a bribe of Shillings 10 million.

The victim pleaded with officers who allegedly agreed to take Shillings one million in cash and pick another Shillings 4 million the next day.

Her husband, Adam Madanda however says they want Police to arrest the officers and witch-doctor to answer for extortion, also demanding that his wife’s money is returned.

The case however became more interesting when Salim Zimula, the area parish councillor filed a seperate complaint with the Police Standards Unit to investigate the implicated officers. Zimula accuses the officers of working with witch doctors to plant exhibits and extort money from their victims.

Luweero District Police Commander, Mworoozi Byaruhanga, says he is investigating the matter before taking action against the implicated officers.
