One contact of a truck driver from Kikagati border, who tested Positive to COVID-19 has been admitted at Mbarara Regional Referral Hospital after testing positive too.

According to head Herbert Muhangi the Isingiro District COVID-19 Task Force, the initial case; a Truck driver who was picking cargo from Kikagati was tested from Mirama Hills, and posted positive results. He was later picked up after loading cargo at Kikagati border heading to the Democratic Republic of Congo and taken to Mbarara Hospital.

Health officials tested all primary contacts for the virus and quarantined them in their homes in Isingiro district. However, when results were released on Tuesday, the patient was picked from Isingiro by a team led by Mbarara Hospital Director Dr Celestine Barigye and taken into isolation at Mbarara Hospital on Wednesday.

Prior to the truck driver’s isolation, one of the contacts already felt unwell and asked to be tested and is now been admitted at Mbarara Hospital for management.

The contact’s family members who include three children and their mother have been asked to stay in their house while being monitored, while the surveillance team from the health ministry is in the area to trace all the other contacts and test them for COVID-19.

Dr Barigye says they are considering isolating the family members for better management by the team from the Ministry of Health and appealed to members of the public to follow the Ministry of Health directives to avoid being affected by the virus.
