Government has announced a three months extension of contract for Face Technologies after the new company assigned to produce driving permits failed to kick off.

Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) was awarded the contract to issue permits to Ugandans after the contract issued to Face Technologies expired this year.

On Monday 30th November 2020, Face Technologies announced that their premises would be closed and there wouldn’t be activity at their facilities until further notice.

The Ministry of Works and Transport also announced that all its regional driving permits issuance offices at Jinja, Mbale Gulu, Arua, Fort Portal and Mbarara would be closed to the public on starting December 1, until further notice.

The closure, according to the Ministry, was to allow the incoming service provider, Uganda Security Printing Company (USPC) to remodel the facilities in preparation for take-over.

Things however took a twist on Wednesday when Susan Kataike the Spokesperson Ministry of Works issued a statement indicating that Face Technologies will continue issuing the permits starting Monday December 7th until March 1, 2021 to give time to the new contractor to take over on.

Face Technologies’ contract expired on November 30 and Government did not renew it.
