Marine police in collaboration with residents have retrieved the body of Nafutali Kizabona, a catechist at Kayanga Catholic Church in Kabale Diocese.

Kizabona,35, drowned in Lake Bunyonyi on Monday morning when a canoe he was sailing on capsized.

The catechist was alone in the canoe while crossing the lake from Kayanga Catholic Church in Butanda sub-county, Kabale district to Harutinda shores in Kitumba sub-county.
However, on reaching the middle of the Lake, the canoe lost balance and capsized.

Elly Maate, Police Spokesperson for the Kigezi region says that Kizabona’s body was retrieved on Tuesday evening at around 7: 00 PM by residents and the marine police deployed at the lake.

Kizabona is the second catechist to drown in Lake Bunyonyi in Kabale in a space of six years, following the death of Yorokam Byomuhangi, a Catechist at St. Phillips Church of Uganda Parish Bugongi in the Diocese of Kigezi that happened in March 2015.

Byomuhangi drowned while heading from his home Kitooma in Rubaya sub-county, Kabale district to preside over a Sunday service at his church.
