Security forces in the border district of Ntoroko have stated that the two Allied Democratic Forces (ADF) rebels who were killed by Uganda People's Defence Forces (UPDF) forces in a fire exchange earlier this week were not attempting to invade the district.

According to the Ntoroko Resident District Commissioner (RDC), the rebels were part of a group that had previously crossed into the district but managed to escape.

They were subsequently captured by routine patrol soldiers while attempting to cross back into the Democratic Republic of Congo. Three other rebels managed to escape unharmed and a search is currently underway for them.

The RDC has called for calm and assured residents that everything is being done to ensure their safety during the festive season.

Last week, an estimated 40 ADF rebels attacked Kyobe, Kayanja, and Kyapa villages in Bweramule Sub-County, forcing hundreds of residents to flee their homes and seek shelter at Karugutu Primary School.

In the ensuing fire exchange, the army killed 17 rebels, captured 13 more, and recovered over 17 guns. Unfortunately, one civilian and a UPDF soldier were also killed in the incident.
