Media personality Frank Gashumba has launched a scathing attack on NTV Uganda, predicting the station could be shut down before polling day in the 2026 general elections.
NTV is currently facing increased pressure from the Ugandan government, with reports indicating that its journalists were recently barred from covering President Yoweri Kaguta Museveni’s events.
Parliament also moved to suspend Nation Media Group journalists from covering plenary, escalating tensions between the state and the media house.
Speaking during a televised discussion with Adam Kungu, Gashumba accused NTV of biased reporting and acting as a publicity platform for the National Unity Platform (NUP), arguing that the station gives more airtime to the opposition while sidelining the ruling NRM.
“I predict, if NTV continues like this, they will not finish this campaign season without being closed. They are so unbalanced and will be blocked from airing. They cover Bobi Wine’s campaigns for over thirty minutes and show President Museveni for seconds. It is no longer a balanced television and will face closure before January 15th, the polling day.” Gashumba stated.
He further warned that the government could take action similar to what happened with other media outlets in the past, citing the closures of Daily Monitor and CBS FM.
The developments have sparked intense debate about media freedom, political interference, and the state of Uganda’s journalism atmosphere ahead of the 2026 elections.
