Newly elected Kampala Lord Mayor, Ronald Balimwezo, has ruled out any direct engagement with President Yoweri Museveni unless he first receives clearance from National Unity Platform (NUP) leader Robert Kyagulanyi (Bobi Wine).
Balimwezo, who last week defeated long-serving Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago in a hotly contested race, says his loyalty remains firmly with the party that sponsored his candidacy.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, the Lord Mayor–elect said any major political decision must be guided by the party leadership.
“I am very loyal to the National Unity Platform and my president, Hon. Robert Kyagulanyi, who was denied his rightful win. I believe in him, and if such a situation ever presented itself, I would first sit down with him before making any decision on my own,” Balimwezo said.
He added that while he is ready to work with all stakeholders for the development of Kampala, his political principles and party discipline remain non-negotiable.
Balimwezo has pledged to lead Kampala with unity, transparency, and cooperation as he prepares to officially assume office.
