A 47-year-old driver, Vincent Arnold Nsamba, alias Sitenda, has been charged with murder over the death of veteran musician and Afrigo Band leader Moses Matovu.
Nsamba, a resident of Agip Zone in Kibuli Parish, appeared before the Makindye Chief Magistrate’s Court on Monday, September 28, where he was charged with murder and remanded to Luzira Upper Prison.
According to the charge sheet, Nsamba allegedly caused the death of the 77-year-old musician with malice aforethought on September 24, 2026, at Market “B” Zone in Kibuli.
Prosecutor Jamaima Akingo told court that investigations into the matter are still ongoing.
Rose Tumusiime, the woman who was reportedly with Matovu shortly before the incident, was also brought to the court premises. However, she was taken away after it emerged that her case file was not ready.
During a crime scene reconstruction, Nsamba reportedly admitted punching Matovu but denied intending to kill him.
“I did not intend to kill him,” Nsamba reportedly told investigators.
Matovu died on September 24 after an altercation in Kibuli. His death shocked Uganda’s music industry, with the veteran musician later laid to rest at his ancestral home in Kyanja.
Nsamba will return to court on November 3, 2026, as investigations continue.
