Businessman and politician Abraham Luzzi has spoken out about the 12-year ban issued against him by the Federation of Uganda Football Associations (FUFA) in 2022, alleging that the decision was politically motivated.
Luzzi, along with two other officials, was prohibited from participating in any football-related activities after he was accused of involvement in match manipulation. The suspension has been in effect since March 2022, forcing him to stay away from the sport.
Speaking during an interview with a local television station, Luzzi claimed the ban was intended to prevent him from contesting for the FUFA Presidency, which he had planned to run for during elections that were approaching at the time.
“They brought that case to stop me from contesting for the Presidency of FUFA. They were afraid of my power and influence, so they brought that case against me and banned me for twelve years. I tried to appeal the decision, but it was never possible,” Luzzi said.
Luzzi is now actively involved in politics and is currently contesting for the Kampala Central Member of Parliament seat. He is running against NUP candidate David Lewis Rubongoya and independent candidate Moses Muhangi, who also serves as the President of the Uganda Boxing Federation.
