Musician Kiggundu Bruno, popularly known as Bruno K, has revealed that he is yet to receive the UGX 130 million awarded to him by court after winning a copyright infringement case against Black Market Records.

In April 2025, the Commercial Division of the High Court, presided over by Justice Patricia Mutesi, ruled in Bruno K’s favour after finding that the American-based music company had unlawfully exploited his music.

The court established that Black Market Records:

  • Took down Bruno K’s YouTube channels,

  • Made false copyright infringement claims against him, and

  • Distributed his songs without his consent or royalty payments.

In her ruling, Justice Mutesi stated:

“I am satisfied that the Plaintiff’s copyright was infringed when his songs were struck down from YouTube, when his channels were taken down, and when false copyright claims were made against him. The 4th Defendant unlawfully exploited the Plaintiff’s songs without his consent and without remitting royalties due to him.”

As compensation, the court awarded Bruno K:

  • UGX 100 million in general damages, and

  • UGX 30 million in aggravated damages,
bringing the total to UGX 130 million.

However, nearly a year after the ruling, the singer says he has not yet been paid.

Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Bruno K said he remains calm and confident that the money will eventually be settled.

“They haven’t paid me, but I’m not giving up. The money continues to grow because of interest. It’s upon them to pay quickly because every day that passes, the amount increases. As long as they continue operating in Uganda, they will pay me,” he said.

Bruno K says he will continue to pursue legal enforcement until the company fully settles the court award.
