Musician Nina Kakunda, popularly known as Nina Roz, has sharply criticised self-identified feminists for remaining silent following the alleged assault of Barbie Kyagulanyi during a recent security raid at her home.

In a strongly worded post shared on social media, Nina Roz accused feminists of abandoning their principles when they were most needed, describing their silence as cowardice and complicity.

She argued that defending women’s rights should not depend on political affiliations or personal opinions.

“When Barbie Kyagulanyi was tortured, stripped of dignity, and humiliated by the state, most so-called feminists chose silence. Not because they didn’t see. Not because they didn’t know. But because it was inconvenient,” she wrote.

Nina Roz stressed that violence against women should never be justified or ignored, regardless of the victim’s background.

“Violence against a woman does not stop being violence because you dislike her husband or her politics. Pain is not contextual,” she added.

In the same post, the singer praised veteran women’s rights advocates Miria Matembe and Winnie Byanyima for publicly condemning the alleged abuse and standing with Barbie Kyagulanyi.

“Women like Miria Matembe did not wait for safety to defend dignity. Winnie Byanyima has never needed permission to call out abuse of power. That is what courage looks like,” she wrote.

Nina Roz concluded by urging women’s rights groups to consistently champion justice and dignity for all women, especially during times of crisis.
