Pastor Wilson Bugembe has opened up about redoing one of Bobi Wine’s songs, saying their long-standing friendship allows him to freely interpret the musician’s work.
Speaking in an interview with a local television station, Bugembe explained that he did not seek permission before remaking Bobi Wine’s song “Batukasukulalila” because he was confident his friend would not be offended by the gesture.
According to the pastor and singer, his intention was to deliver the song’s message to ordinary people and ensure it reached a wider audience.
“I redid the song and wanted it to reach the people on the ground. I knew that Bobi Wine is my friend, so he wouldn’t get mad about my version of the song,” Bugembe explained.
The two musicians have maintained a close friendship for nearly two decades, with their relationship extending beyond music and into mutual respect for each other’s work.
Bugembe’s remarks highlight the strong bond he shares with the National Unity Platform president, who has also remained one of Uganda’s most influential musicians.
Despite the remake, Bugembe’s comments suggest there is no bad blood between the two, with their friendship continuing to stand the test of time.
