Uganda's celebrated dance group, the Ghetto Kids, are set to perform alongside global music superstar Shakira during the 2026 FIFA World Cup final on July 19 in New Jersey, USA.
The group's manager, Dauda Kavuma, revealed that the Ghetto Kids are staying at the same hotel as Lionel Messi and the Argentina national team ahead of the highly anticipated final.
The Ugandan dance troupe had initially been expected to perform during the tournament's opening ceremony after appearing in Shakira's World Cup anthem, "Dai Dai," alongside Burna Boy. However, that opportunity did not materialize. Instead, they have now been given the honor of performing during the grand finale.
"We are so happy. This has been God's work from the very beginning. We have walked this journey with only God, and we thank Him for every blessing," Dauda Kavuma said.
Kavuma also disclosed that additional members of the Ghetto Kids are expected to join the group in the United States ahead of the performance.
However, dancer Patricia Nabakooza, who currently lives in the U.S., will not take part in the performance because she is focusing on her studies after failing to secure leave.
The Ghetto Kids have grown into one of Uganda's biggest entertainment exports, earning international acclaim through performances on global television shows, collaborations with international stars, and appearances at major events around the world.
