Veteran singer Mesach Semakula has advised Uganda's current generation of musicians to prioritize quality over quantity, saying timeless music always finds its way back to listeners.
The celebrated artist believes the resurgence of classic songs on TikTok is proof that well-crafted music can remain relevant for decades.
Speaking during an interview with the media, Semakula said many veteran musicians are enjoying renewed popularity because they focused on creating songs with meaningful messages and lasting appeal instead of chasing short-lived trends.
"Only the good ones come back—not all of them. Creatives should focus on making quality music that will last and benefit them for years," he partly explained.
Semakula noted that TikTok has become a powerful platform for introducing classic songs to younger audiences, allowing timeless hits to enjoy a second life years after their original release.
He encouraged artists to invest in quality songwriting, production, and messages that can stand the test of time, arguing that such music continues to generate value long after its release.
Several Ugandan classics, including songs by the late Paul Job Kafeero, Radio, Eagles Production, Jose Chameleone, and Bobi Wine, have recently enjoyed renewed popularity on TikTok as users continue to rediscover and share them.
