The head of a medical strike that paralyzed health business in the country and brought government to its knees in November kissed death last night after he was attacked by unknown goons.

According to Luke Oweyesigire, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson it is confirmed that Dr. Ekwaro Obuku was attacked at his home gate located in Kitikifumba Zone in Kiira Division in Wakiso district as he waited for it to be opened and his phone was robbed.

Uganda Medical Association (UMA) General Secretary, Dr. Muhwezi Muhereza, says Dr. Obuku was attacked at around 8pm as he returned home from work.

"He was mugged at outside his gate. I don't know whether it's mugging or beating. That is a fact but he is stable and fine. He is not in danger and we are going to check on him today," Dr. Muhereza said.

Owoyesigire further explained that thugs robbed the hand bag of Dr. Obuku's wife identified as Joyce Akiigwa. The outspoken Dr. Obuku was elected UMA president in September 2017 and is expected to serve until 2019.

He fearlessly led UMA through the November 2017 strike demanding better remuneration for medical workers, a review of the supply chain and management of medicines, vaccines and medical supplies and disbandment of the Health Monitoring Unit.

The doctors only resumed work after government agreed to give them a pay rise.
