A security guard who fed his two children poison-laced food has been charged by Police with attempted murder and murder.

The suspect is Oscar Kusasira, a private security guard at Ngombere primary school in Mukono district.

He allegedly decided poisoned his children on Sunday evening following a misunderstanding with his wife, Brenda Arinaitwe. Kusasira also took poison to end his life but residents and police came to their rescue and rushed him and the older son to a hospital in critical condition. 

Kusasiira's young son, one-year-old Osbert Kusasiira died instantly after consuming the poison-laced food. Patrick Onyango, the Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson told media on Wednesday morning, that Kusasiira and his elder son are out of danger. 

He explains that they transferred the suspect from Herona Hospital in Kisoga town council in Mukono municipality to Mulago National Referral Hospital for further treatment and safe custody. 
According to Onyango, the suspect is under police protection to prevent him from escaping. 

The police have preferred attempted murder and murder charges against him.

According to Arinaitwe, Kusasiira took away the children from her claiming that he wanted to stay with them in his room at his workstation (school). She notes that his decision to take the children came after a disagreement on who should keep the Shillings 300,000 that she got for digging at one of the resident's gardens. 

Ronald Ssekitoleko, one of the residents appealed to men to work hard for themselves to avoid gender-related violence.
