The electoral commission has this morning unveiled a new technology which will be used in the upcoming general elections at Hotel Africana.

The commission Chairman Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu unveiled the technology in the presence of Speaker Rt. Hon. Rebbecca Alitwala Kadaga and explained that it will eliminate multiple voting.

A technical demonstration of biometric voter verification system was done before the speaker who hailed the commission for the great work.

according to Dr. Kiggundu, since the establishment of electoral commission by 1997 Act, EC has taken various measures to improve management and conduct of elections like measures to ensure that only eligible persons appear on the national voters register and stop multiple voting.

He also explained that 32,333 machines for 28,010 polling stations in Uganda have been acquired to be used in the upcoming general elections

Kiggundu appealed to all stakeholders in the electoral process to embrace this initiative so as to achieve a credible election.

Kiggundu: "I therefore appeal to all stakeholders in the electoral process to embrace this initiative so as to achieve a credible election. I call upon all stakeholders to follow guidelines for the use of this technology and we get desired results -fraud free election."
