Police says they have received intelligence that a group of FDC supporters in the areas of Kitara, Abayitababiri, Kisubi-kawuku, Kasenyi and Entebbe Municipality plan on storming Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s home to rescue him from Police siege.
Addressing the media at police headquarters in Naguru, police spokesperson Fred Enanga said the group is led by John Mugabi, former Kyambogo University guild president and Gitta Alex former Member of Parliament candidate for Entebbe Municipality on FDC ticket.
Enanga explains that, “While there, they intend to plan to pressurize government to free him from alleged house arrest and to disorganize the swearing in ceremony of the president scheduled in the month of May, 2016”
The police mouthpiece adds that the date of travel to Kasangati is not yet known but they intend to mobilize about 10,000 participants and they have distributed leaflets in the above areas with words that;
“House arrest campaign in solidarity with Dr. Besigye our president, stay at home every Thursday till he is set free, start: 10th March, 2016. Respect my vote. I voted, counted my vote, free my vote, free our president.”
According to Enanga, the said mobilization is going on in busy trading centres along Entebbe road where FDC and the opposition in general have supporter.
Enanga says monitoring continues, but warns the public against engaging in such illegal acts.
