Former Forum for Democratic Change, FDC party presidential candidate Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye says for Ugandans and foreigners to invest in Uganda’s the sector; there should be introduction of health insurance for all Ugandans.

Appearing on a talk show “4th Estate” last night, Besigye said investment in health is so high and there is need for machines worth millions of dollars. He says a few people can afford such money.

“At the end of the day, it relates to the whole policy of the health care system, because you are talking about the affordability of those who are seeking care. If you have health insurance, where people have universal insurance coverage, then health providers can invest in the comfort that they will get an estimable return” Besigye said.

Besigye argues that 44,000 cancer patients in Uganda do not have money to pay at a private hospitable, and so government should look into financing health care.

He added; “There must be a policy that affords citizens to finance health care. We have been talking about health insurance for citizens, it works but again you need robust systems that will manage it. It will be a night mare if you introduce it in a situation like that of Uganda where public institutions are dysfunctional.”
