Opposition forum for democratic change, FDC party insists on holding processions in all cities across the country, despite a court order, banning all their party defiance campaign activities.

This morning, FDC released a statement branded #SitukaMay5, claiming the demonstration is aimed at Ugandans rallying in defence of religious freedoms and democratic rights, and also to test government’s commitment to civil and political rights.

“Tens of thousands of Ugandans will be gathering in cities and towns across the country today, Thursday 5th May 2016 in peaceful protest against the government’s persistent violation of their basic civil and political rights,” the statement received by this website reads.

Forum for Democratic Change, FDC argues that despite widespread evidence of fraud and mounting International criticism, the government has resisted calls by FDC former presidential candidate Dr. Kiiza Besigye to resolve the disputed vote through an independent audit of the electoral process.

By last evening, police had deployed its men and women in Kampala and other towns in the country where members if FDC party are planning to hold processions.

In Kampala, police have cordoned off Dr. Kiiza Besigye’s home in Kasangati, and not even journalists are allowed to peep and see what he is up to. At Najjanankumbi, the party head offices could be mistaken for a barracks. The press is not allowed in, and the party employees show identification cards to enter their own offices.

Trouble for FDC started on Friday last week, when the deputy Chief Justice, Stephen Kavuma issued an order banning all party defiance campaign activities.

31 party members were on Tuesday arrested after turning up at Najjanankumbi for Black Tuesday prayers. They would later be granted bail on Wednesday. While Dr. Kiiza Besigye, the party iron man is once again under house arrest.

Besigye tweeted this morning; “It's time to act NOW! It's 5/5/2016- #FreeMyVote START where you're, DO what you can, Use what you have!! Be part of RECLAIMING OUR COUNTRY, our institutions, our national resources, our jobs, health care, education etc!!”
