Police traffic department has issued traffic guidelines to be followed by all residents in Kampala and the surrounding areas as President Yoweri Museveni swears in for another 5 year term.
Addressing the media at police headquarters in Naguru Kampala, Police Director in charge Traffic and road safety Dr .Stephen Kasiima explained that beginning today Tuesday, traffic to Entebbe airport, Entebbe Municipality, and surrounding areas will be diverted to the new Entebbe express high way which though still under construction is motorable.
According to Gen. Kale Kayihura, the Inspector General of police, the force held consultative meetings with transporters (Lorry operators) and resolved that Lories carrying building materials shall be diverted from Entebbe highway and restrict movement within the central business district for a period of four days.
“On fuel and lubricants all tankers transporting fuel and other lubricants whether into the country or in transit shall be escorted from the border either to their destinations or the respective border through which they are in transit. We shall not allow fuel tankers to pass through the city centre. We have arranged that fuel tankers from our Eastern border heading to the west, or north through the Northern corridor shall be diverted as Seeta through Namugongo to the Northern by-pass,” says Kayihura.
Fuel tankers supplying fuel in the city center shall park at multiple tank yard at Nakawa near the URA offices and shall then be escorted.
Fuel tankers supplying fuel to Entebbe town and Entebbe airport shall also park at Multiple Tank Yard at Nakawa and shall then be escorted to Entebbe.
He warned “No purchasing or carrying of fuel in Jerrycans or buvera shall be allowed.”
