President Yoweri Museveni has this morning been sworn in as the president of Uganda for the next five years.
Gen. Museveni was sworn in amid cheers from members of the ruling National Resistance Movement, a party he chairs.
He took the Oath at 11:57 am at Kololo Airstrip this morning during an even attended by African leaders.
Leaders who witnessed the ceremony include; Sri Lanka former President Mahinda Rajapaksa, Rwandan Premier Murekezi Anastase, Kenya’s H.E Uhuru Kenyatta, South Sudan’s H.E Salvar Kirr, Sudan’s H.E Omar Bashir, President of Equatorial Guinea Teodoro Obiang Nguema Mbasogo, Niger President Mahamadou Issoufou, Mali President Ibrahim Boubacar Keïta, Zimbabwe President Robert Mugabe, Chad President Idriss Déby, Prime Minister of Cameroon Ebua Philémon Yang, Zambia President Edgar Lungu, Tanzania President H.E. John Magufuli, Swaziland Prime Minister Dr. Barnabas Dlamini, King Letsie III of Lesotho, Prime Minister of Ethiopia Haillemariam Desalegn.
“The swearing in ceremony began with the chairman electoral commission, Eng. DR. Badri Kiggundu inviting and introducing to the public the president elect through reading a proclamation. He then invite the Chief Justice, His Lordship Bart Magunda Katureebe to administer the Oath of Allegiance and the Oath of President to the President elect.
President elect was then guided into taking and signing the Oath of Allegiance and Oath of president by the chief registrar. Thereafter, chief justice presented to the President the instruments of power which include; the constitution, the National Flag, the presidential standard flag, the national Anthem, the National court of Arms and the seal.
HE, the president will host the visiting delegations to a state luncheon at the common wealth speke resort Munyonyo later today.
This is President Museveni’s 5th swearing in ceremony, the previous ones being 1996, 2001, 2006, and 2011.
