Civil servants across the country will not be receiving their salaries for the month of May 2016 soon, after the Ministry of finance, economic planning and development announced a delay until further notice.

According to a letter issued by Ronald Mangani, the secretary to the treasury at the finance ministry, the salaries will be delayed due to payroll changes, which have been necessitated by results of the head count that was carried out by the National Audit office in March 2016.

“The ministry of finance economic planning and development sincerely regrets the inconveniences this delay will cause to civil servants and their families. The ministry is working hard to ensure that this process is completed within the shortest possible,” the letter reads.

The document also indicates that the finance ministry is working with various ministries and departments to review the payroll and make necessary adjustments in line with the recommendations of the head count.

According to the letter, the exercise will be completed after the official pay-day which passed on Friday 27th
