Police has warned opposition Forum for Democratic change, FDC party to desist from staging demonstrations, outside the public order management Act.

The development follows the arrest of 3 suspects in Jinja who were part of a group planning to hold illegal demonstrations and protests in the Eastern town.

Fred Enanga, the police spokesperson says Tusiime Smason, Muyinda Ismail and Asia Nanyanzi had printed and distributed 120 T-shirts bearing the image of former FDC presidential flag bearer Col. Dr. Kiiza Besigye to promote anti-social protests at Nakawa High Court on Wednesday when he returns to court.

According to Enanga, police has only managed to recorver 20 T-shirts as inquiries progress.

“We wish to inform the public that the police regularly facilitate peaceful and lawful public assemblies throughout the year with the year with the cooperation of the organizers,” Said Enanga.

The police mouth piece also warned that; “On several occasions, protesters especially from the FDC party choose not to adhere to the conditions and provisions of the public Order Management Act. Our message is that whoever plans on holding a public assembly must follow the law.”

He warns that they will not tolerate any law breakers and are prepared to take swift and decisive enforcement action should it become necessary.
