The joint police and military forces in Gulu have arrested the overall commander of the gang that attacked the Gulu main police station.
The update from Gulu was a while ago given by army spokesperson Paddy Ankunda.
Five suspects have so far been arrested. Another attacker has just surrendered to the joint forces in Gulu.
“Among the Gulu attackers whom we have now is the overall commander of the group,” says Ankunda.
On Sunday, 12th June, 2016, at about 8.30 pm, a criminal gang attacked the main Gulu Police station before being repulsed by a joint Police and UPDF force, which had been deployed to protect the station following earlier information that there was probability of an armed attack on the station to rescue a suspect.
According to Gen. Kale Kayihura, the IGP, the objective of the attack was to free and cause escape of one suspect, Oola Dan Odiya who was due to appear in court on Monday on charges of murder and terrorism.
After the attack, Six AK-47 rifles, 1 PK machine gun, 270 rounds of ammunition, 12 empty magazines, 1 SAR rifle, 3 Pouches, A bow and 8 Arrows (Factory made) were recovered.
In the exchange of fire exchange, Cpl Edema Moses of UPDF was killed, Four other UPDF personnel were injured, Two police personnel were injured and One civilian who were driving on the way from a funeral.
The injured were immediately taken to the 4th Division military Hospital and Lacor Hospital.

ASP Moses Masaba the Aswa Regional Firefighting Commander would on Monday evening succumb to his wounds. Masaba was shot 7 times.
Last evening, shooting resumed as the joint forces tried to apprehend one of the suspects.
