The family of fallen Assistant Superintendent of police Moses Masaba, the police officer who was shot in a gunfire exchange at Gulu Central Police Station on Sunday has demande that government takes blame for the death of their son.

Masaba, was shot seven times by a gang that attacked the police station, and succumbed to the injuries at Lacor Hospital, Monday evening leaving his family in too much pain.

Masaba’s mother, Monica Wanyangala while speaking during the burial of the deceased at their ancestral home in Bushikori village, Bunghoko Sub County in Mbale last evening, demanded that government especially the Uganda police force accounts to the nation by ensuring that perpetrators of the attack are brought to book.

She painfully told the mourners that her son was the sole bread winner for the family since the death of his father Stephen Wanyangala in 1997.

Olivia Rosemary Wawire, the deputy director of police in charge of the Directorate of the Fire Prevention and Rescue Services described late Masaba as a very disciplined, hardworking and committed officer.

The Inspector General of Police Kale Kayihura in a message read for him by Joseph Mugisa, the director of Fire Prevention and Rescue Services applauded the deceased for his commitment in serving the nation.

Kayihura said Masaba was a promising young officer whose contribution to the development of the Uganda Police Force and the nation will be greatly missed.

On the other hand, the Internal Affairs Ministry promised to use every resource at their disposal to bring the perpetrators of the Gulu attack to book.

A statement by the ministry's permanent secretary Stephen Kagoda, said that government will not let the perpetrators go unpunished.

This morning, Fred Enanga, the Police Spokesperson told us, that 9 suspects have so far been arrested by the joint forces in Gulu and they are being interrogated in relation to the attack.

Masaba who has been the Regional Officer in charge of Fire and Rescue Activities for Aswa Region Headquarters at Gulu was accorded a 21-gun salute.
