The Forum of Democratic Change Presidential flag bearer Patrick Amuriat Oboi has announced that his campaign to take over leadership of the country will be guided by former party President, Col Dr. Kizza Besigye.

While addressing the media at party headquarters in Najjanankumbi on Monday morning, Amuriat said the campaign is not his alone but of the deprived who want to dislodge a 34 year old dictatorship and it will be collectively executed.

He noted that the Party is deep rooted in every village across the country and the grassroot leaders are the ones to help him with the campaign.

“We know that the oppressed constitute up to 90% of the entire population of Uganda. The oppressors are 1% aided by a 9% workforce that continue to underdo our efforts as progressive forces that are dead bent in causing liberation of our country” POA said.

Amuriat noted that in consultation with the party leadership, he has appointed his former competitor Amb Waswa Birigwa as the Director General of the campaign. Hon. Roland Kaginda will be the field coordinator, Hon Albert Okello as Executive Director of the campaign bureau.

POA says the all-male team consists of eminent citizens who are tested and that he believes they will measure up to the task of putting in place a robust campaign team.
They are expected to set up a campaign bureau and campaign structures, while a complete team will be unveiled on Monday 19th October 2020. He noted that the team is also expected to set up fundraiser platforms to generate funds that will lubricate the gears which will run the campaign.

On Thursday last week, Patrick Oboi Amuriat was officially unveiled as the FDC Party Presidential flag bearer for the 2021 general election after his opponent in the Party primaries, Waswa Birigwa who doubles as the Party chairman, dropped out of the race.

Meanwhile, Amuriat appealed to all Party members who are interested in contesting for the Parliamentary positions under the FDC Party ticket, to express interest and take advantage of the postponement of nominations days by the Electoral Commission.

“We also advise and instruct our candidates to present themselves for nomination on first day of the exercise. This should give room for mitigation of certain inconveniences that may be caused by the NRM” Amuriat added.

According to Paul Bukenya the acting EC spokesperson, nomination of candidates for Parliamentary Elections 2021 will take place on Thursday 15th and Friday 15th October 2020 at the respective District/City Headquarters across the country, starting at 9:00am to 5pm on each day.
