Minister of State for Youth and Children Affairs Balaam Barugahara has called for the exhumation of the remains of the late Kadongo Kamu singer Paul Kafeero to facilitate DNA testing and resolve a long-standing family dispute.
The disagreement, which has persisted for years, centers around questions of paternity among individuals claiming to be the singer’s children.
A similar proposal in 2021 was halted after Uganda Police pathologist Dr. Moses Byaruhanga advised that the family first resolve internal conflicts before proceeding with exhumation.
Balaam now says the government is ready to support the process through forensic authorities in Naguru to bring the matter to a conclusive end.
He revealed that he has already engaged the Director of Forensics, Assistant Commissioner of Police Andrew K. Mubiru, to explore the possibility of conducting DNA tests for all individuals believed to be Kafeero’s children.
“I spoke to the Director of Forensics and requested that all the children of the late Paul Kafeero undergo DNA testing. I understand they are now adults, and it is time this matter is resolved completely. The government is prepared to do whatever it takes to bring closure,” Balaam said.
