Veteran journalist Faridah Nakazibwe has reopened her long-running feud with State Minister Justine Nameere, disputing claims that she lost a defamation case filed against her several years ago.
The media personality responded after reports emerged that Nameere intended to sue a Masaka woman who recently accused her of fraud during an anti-corruption rally.
Nakazibwe challenged the narrative that Nameere had previously won a defamation case against her, insisting that the matter was never concluded in court.
According to Nakazibwe, Nameere allegedly failed to appear for mediation and did not prosecute the case to its conclusion.
"The supplier doesn't have to worry much. She also sued me for defamation in 2019 and never showed up for any mediation sitting. Not even her lawyer did. I only saw her months later on a media tour convincing the world that the case had been concluded in her favour and that I should apologise," Nakazibwe wrote.
She further claimed that she has never seen any court judgment in Nameere's favour.
"I waited for her to share a copy of the judge's ruling. Up to date, I am still waiting. Surprisingly, after the media tour, with no apology from me, she said, 'I have withdrawn the case for peace's sake.' Of course some gullible ones believed, and we all moved on to the next news. Good to note though that... not everyone is defamable," she added.
The public exchange revives one of Uganda's most talked-about media rivalries, which dominated headlines several years ago. Whether Nameere will respond to Nakazibwe's latest remarks remains to be seen.
