Students at Iganga High School were on Sunday night left counting losses after a ravaging fire destroyed their property worth millions to ashes.

Students at Iganga High School were on Sunday night left counting losses after a ravaging fire destroyed their property worth millions to ashes.

The fire started at 9:00pm , spreading fast to two dormitories housing senior three and senior four male students.

The school has not reported any fatalities as learners were attending evening revision (preps)at the time of the incident. However, property worth millions, including mattresses, books, shoes, clothing and other scholastic materials were burnt 

Eyewitnesses at the school claim they only noticed a big cloud of smoke coming from the dormitories and the run to see, it was later established that fire had gutted the school.

The students claim they tried to access the burning rooms to remove some of their property but were blocked from entering.

Busoga East Police spokesperson, Diana Nandawula says police are still investigating the exact cause of the fire . 

Nandawula says they suspect loose electricity lines within the boys’ dormitory area might have sparked off the fire. 

She adds that they registered two fire incidents within the Iganga municipal council area on Sunday night. He said their teams rushed to put-off the fire.
On Friday last week, fire gutted a boys dormitory at Mbarara Senior Secondary School destroying property worth millions in shillings.

The fire which broke out at about 09:45 am on Friday morning at Nyerere House boy’s dormitory that houses 78 learners in Senior one two.

No fatality or injuries were reported in the incident but  properties including books, mattresses and beddings were completely destroyed by the fire.
