Police hunt for driver of trailer that killed family of four in Ntingamo accident

Police are investigating the cause of an accident that claimed the lives of four family members on Sunday night at Omunshenyi along the Ntungamo-Kabale road.

Police are investigating the cause of an accident that claimed the lives of four family members on Sunday night at Omunshenyi along the Ntungamo-Kabale road. 

The deceased have been identified as Opeda Byamukama,44, a teacher at Bukiinda Secondary School and one of the directors of Wisdom Secondary School Rwentobo, his wife, Peninah Nabimanya,40, plus their children Predice Nyakato 10, and Magiiga Ones Kiiza, 3, all residents of Rwanyamutare cell Muhanga town council in Rukiga district.   

The family met their death on Sunday when a semi-trailer registration number UBH 711S crashed the Noah Toyota vehicle registration number UAY 833N they were traveling in.

According to Jojo Okot Aldo the in-Charge Rubaare Police Station, the trailer which was heading to Ntungamo from Kabale lost control and crashed in the Noah that was from the opposite direction killing all the four occupants aboard.   

The truck driver fled from the scene. The Rwizi Region Police Spokesperson Samson Kasasira says that police handed over the deceased's bodies to Doctor's referral hospital in Rubaare Town Centre for postmortem before handing them over to the relatives for burial.

Both vehicles have been ploughed and are currently parked at Rubaare police station pending inspection by the Inspector of Vehicles as efforts to trace the truck driver are ongoing.
