Police in Kasangati shot dead a security guard who tried to rob a petrol station he was guarding at gunpoint on Monday morning.
The deceased, Lotiang Paul, attached to Sararacen security limited, attacked the manager of Hass petrol station in Kijabijjo, Kira Municipality, Wakiso District and demanded keys to a cash safety box.
According to Luke Owoyesigyire, the Kampala Metropolitan Deputy Police Mouthpiece, the incident happened at about 9:38am on Monday morning. He says Lotiang put all his victims at gunpoint in one spot and demanded their keys but in vain.
Owoyesigyire says one of the victims managed to successfully alert the police who swung into action immediately.
He explains that two officers who initially responded to the distress call both tried to disarm Lotiang but one was shot and injured in the process.
The injured police officer identified as Sande Emmanuel attached to Kasangati Police Post is currently nursing serious injuries at Mulago National Referral Hospital where he was rushed.
Owoyesigyire says Sande was shot moments before his other colleagues killed Lotiang. He adds that the place has since been cordoned off as police investigate further.
