
President Yoweri Museveni has assured tea farmers that government will find market for their tea by entering into bilateral agreements with some countries to buy the product.
The president who was presiding over the 30th anniversary celebrations of the NRM victory in Kyegobe fort portal on Tuesday said getting sure market for tea is the reason he visited Algeria, Saudi Arabia and Sudan.
Museveni also explained that in return, Uganda shall buy some things from those countries saying the Arabs are not drinking much tea because they are in chaos.
He also warned those who think that bad politics is a good thing advising them to revise their thinking, as the only way to mitigate the low prices is to get some of the Arab countries to buy our tea.
The president who has led this country for 30 years says the NRM government is thinking of intervening on the side of fertilizers through subsidies so that the low prices don’t affect the farmers' little profits.
The day was celebrated under the theme; “30 years of NRM's committed stewardship: A remarkable legacy for Uganda”.
Museveni also promised to upgrade different airports in the country. “The NRM government will also upgrade Kasese, Arua and Gulu Airports and also expand the one in Soroti, all to international standards to facilitate tourists travel as well as decongest Entebbe International Airport. Later, airports will be constructed in Ntungamo and Nakasongola.”
