The late former Uganda Commercial Bank (UCB) managing director and chairman, Mr Frank Mwine has been described as a great friend and great worker by his colleagues, family and friends.
This was during a requiem service held this morning at All Saints Cathedral Nakasero to pray for his soul.
Mwine, 73, died on Tuesday night in Los Angeles, United States, due to what the doctors called a brain infection he developed after a tumor had been successfully removed from his brain.
A one Dr. Ssebbaale, his friend and personal doctor told mourners that; “Last Monday, I noticed his eyes were becoming yellow. I advised he needed a checkup. We found a tumor in the brain and we worked around the clock to fly him to USA. In US tumor was operated successfully and all of us were happy because it is rare.”
He added; “little did we know he had developed another condition that affects brain, movement, thinking and behavior. It has no cure but gets worse. When you have the condition you can't swallow very well. The eyes look the opposite side. This is what killed Frank.”
Dr. Ssebbaale described him as a great man.
Another speaker, Ernest Kakwale a friend to the deceased describes him as a family man. “Frank has strong sentiments for his family and wherever he went he always had his family at mind.”
Dr. Robin Kibuuka, a representative of World Bank said Frank was his role model.
Dr. Kibuuka says; “He was good source to go to learn how to navigate difficult situations. He mentored many people.”
Late Frank’s sister Amb.Margret Kyogire describes him as a funny brother, who lit up their whole family with laughter. “I loved Frank so much that whatever he said gave me pleasure. He made village life interesting.”
His son, only identified as Kasasira said God had given them a rare and amazing gift in their father.
Kusasira said; “I want to live the kind of life that my dad lived .He had a mission and always insisted on finishing it.”
The service was also attended by PM Ruhakana Rugunda, Hon. Jim Muhwezi, Eng.John Nasasira, Former finance minister Maria Kiwanuka and other dignitaries.
For Ugandans, Mwine will best be remembered for his role as the managing director and chairman of Uganda Commercial Bank (now Stanbic), the largest bank in Uganda in the 1980’s and early 1990’s.
The service is still ongoing at the Cathedral in Nakasero Kampala.
