The electoral commission says it is yet to receive reports from local and international observers that were accredited for the missions in the February 2016 elections.
Addressing the media in Kampala on Wednesday morning, the EC chairman Eng. Dr. Badru Kiggundu said from the reports and EC workshops with the electoral stakeholders, the commission will consider recommendations with a view of improving its operations.
The commission also rolled out a program to carry out residual elections in the local government councils.
Eng Kiggundu argued that; “As you might be aware, there are a number of areas in the Local Governments where voting did not take place during the general elections on account of either death of a candidate, Violence or where there were no nominations among others. The Commission has therefore approved a program for residual elections in various Local Governments.”
The program is as follows;
Consultative meetings by the Returning officers with the Stakeholders for 11th May, nomination of candidates at Sub county, county, and district headquarters on 9th-10th May, nomination, campaigns, polling day for professional bodies in KCCA, 9th May, Returning officers meetings with candidates to harmonize campaign programs and information of liaison committees 11th May, Campaigns on 12th -29th May, Polling day for Regional representatives of older persons, 17th May, Training of polling day officials/political parties agents at respective sub counties 27th-28th May, and Polling day for local Government Residual elections and tallying of results for 31st May 2016
