Barely a week since embattled Kampala Lord Mayor Erias Lukwago forcefully re-opened his office for cleaning, ahead of his swearing in ceremony, earlier slated for Wednesday this week, it turns out he might have to wait a little longer.
Lukwago who has been up in arms with the KCCA technical team was initially to be sworn in on May 20th, only for the date to be postponed to June 1st.
Last week, Lukwago told a press conference that he was not happy about the postponement since they are trying to keep time for passing the 2016/2017 financial year budget.
Now, the frustration will increase after the inspector general of Police, Gen. Kale Kayihura wrote to Jennifer Musisi, the KCCA Executive Director to postpone the date claim there is not enough police personnel to facilitate the ceremony.
“This week, we are hosting two Heads of State, from the republic of South Korea and the Republic of Turkey. In addition, we are preparing for the Uganda Martyrs day celebrations on Friday 3rd June with pilgrims streaming into the Kampala city,” the police spokesperson said.
Enanga explains that; “the IGP has requested the Executive Director KCCA to reschedule the swearing in ceremony of the Lord Mayor, Lord Councilors and councilors from Wednesday 1st June 2016 to next week, beginning Monday 6th June 2016 simply because the capacity of the police and sister security agencies shall be over stretched.”
KCCA spokesperson Peter Kaujju confirmed receipt of the letter, saying action will also follow soon.
